Edgemont City Pool

Open to the public June 1-August 20
Monday – Saturday: Noon-6 p.m.

Located just off Edgemont’s main street and a short walk from the Cowboy Inn, the city pool is supervised by YMCA trained life guards and is maintained by Edgemont’s YMCA staff.

Edgemont Trap Club
Located 3 miles north of Edgemont on Dewey Road, the Edgemont Trap Club is a public access trap club. Starting May 1, a Shoot Night is held every Tuesday, starting at 5 p.m.

Senior Citizens Center

The Senior Citizens Center is a constant hub of activity, with weekly events including:

Daily Morning Coffee, 8 a.m.-10 a.m., FREE (Donations accepted)
Low Impact Exercise, 9 a.m., Monday-Friday
Pinochle, 1 p.m., Monday and Thursday
Ceramics, 1 p.m. Wednesday, $0.50 per piece
Quilting, 9 a.m., Thursday

The Senior Citizens Center also hosts birthday parties, potluck dinners, and dances throughout the year, along with other events.

Edgemont Theatre – Melodramas
Each summer, the Edgemont Community Theatre puts on two vaudeville-era melodramas to packed houses at our local sale barn turned theatre. Locals pitch in to do the acting, the cooking for the dinner theatre, and the cleaning. Audiences are invited to boo and hiss at the villains and cheer for the good guy when he wins. Don’t forget to get your root beer float at intermission!

Located on Second Street by the Mickelson Trailhead and the Edgemont City Park, the Trails, Trains, and Pioneers Museum houses an outstanding number of artifacts from the history of the Edgemont area. Visitors can learn about the community’s ranching history, daily life, past industrial pursuits, geology, and so much more.
The community was started as a stopping place for the early railroads which today are still an important part of the community’s character.
Many trails have passed by, but today the Mickelson Trail is an important piece of the community’s fabric. Pioneers in the area settled on ranches and made a living off the land, as their descendants today continue the heritage.
Learn about the early inhabitants of the area who left their marks in the form of rock art found in surrounding canyons, etched into the beautiful red rocks.

Mickelson Trail

The 109-mile Mickelson Trail follows the former Burlington Northern rail corridor from Edgemont to Deadwood. With its gentle grade and easy access, the trail is enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities for a variety of activities, including bicycling, hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.
Cost: $4 for a day pass or $15 for an annual pass

Horseback Riding

Edgemont is a trail rider’s dream destination, with miles of the Black Hills National Forest, Buffalo Gap National Grassland, and Mickelson Trail open to riders. Sunrise Guest Ranch, on the outskirts of Edgemont, welcomes riders and their horses to stay and ride into the Black Hills National Forest

Hunting
Whether you are looking for elk or antelope, whitetail deer or mule deer, bison, or even wild turkey, Edgemont is the place to come.

In addition, a large number of privately owned acres are enrolled in the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks’ Walk-In Program. Hunters can stay at the campground south of town, Cowboy Inn in town, or at Sunrise Guest Ranch north of town and hunt these privately owned lands.

Fishing

If fishing is your sport, you are minutes away from many sweet spots. Edgemont has its own fishing dam west of town with trout and wide-mouth bass while the Cheyenne River next to town and the pond at City Park offer catfish. A number of additional lakes and streams are within an hour of Edgemont including Stockade, Horse Thief, Sylvan, Pactola, Cottonwood, Angostura and Sheridan Lakes.
